The new Czech president is not shy

The Czech Republic has a new president in the person of Petr Pavel. The former NATO general has already taken an assumed start upon his election. Its geopolitical orientation is beyond doubt.

In the news : Who is the new president of the Czech Republic?

  • Petr Pavel is a soldier at heart. The son of an intelligence officer, Pavel himself was trained at the military school in Vyskov. In 1983 he became a soldier in the Czech army as a paracommando and then as a platoon commander.
  • Two years later, Pavel joined the Communist Party, a period he would later describe as “a mistake”. In 1988, he entered the Military Academy in Brno, to follow in his father’s footsteps as an intelligence officer. Later, he will also study at several universities in the United States and the United Kingdom.
  • Then, Pavel will return to the army, where he will participate in particular in the UN peacekeeping force in Bosnia, during the wars of Yugoslavia. Later in his career, Pavel served as Chief of Staff of the Czech Army and Chairman of the NATO Military Committee. He said goodbye in 2018.
