Washington County UTV crash kills one, injures one

SALEM TWP. — A Lowell man is dead and a woman injured after two UTVs collided on Ohio 530 Saturday evening, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. near mile post 5 in Salem Township, according to a release from the Marietta Post of the Highway Patrol.

A UTV driven by Tracy A. Augenstein, 51, of Lowell was eastbound on Ohio 530 when it struck another eastbound UTV driven by Travis Allen, 32 of Lowell. Augenstein was ejected from the UTV and pronounced deceased at the scene, the release said.

Malinda Trout, 48, of Lowell, the passenger in Augenstein’s UTV, was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, the release said. An update on her condition was not available Sunday.

No injuries were reported to Allen or his passenger, Andrea Ingram, 40, of Caldwell, the release said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Salem and Lowell-Adams Volunteer Fire Departments.

Alcohol, seatbelt usage and unauthorized vehicles on the roadway are believed to be factors in the crash, which remained under investigation.
